TimeOptMCMC merupakan pendekatan statistik yang membantu menentukan hubungan antara hari dengan jarak Bumi dan Bulan.
Hasilnya Bulan menjauh dengan kecepatan 3,82 centimeter pertahun. Dengan hitungan tersebut, bukan tak mungkin satu hari akan berdurasi 25 jam pada 200 juta tahun lagi.
Menurut para ilmuwan, temuan itu disebut sebagai siklus Milankovitch. Ini merupakan saat penentuan dimana sinar Matahari didistribusikan di Bumi dan ritme iklimnya.
Penelitian yang sama pernah dilakukan juga oleh ilmuwan Rusia Jacques Laskar. Penelitiannya tahun 1989 terkait kekacauan tata surya.
Indian Express menyebut penelitian Wisconsin menekankan lebih jauh soal pergeseran Bulan dan dampaknya pada Bumi.
